Dear Readers and Website,
I am sorry I have neglected you over the past few weeks. I promise it wasn’t you it was me!
So let’s sit down and properly redefine what this website is going to be for, where I see it growing in the future and most importantly what I want to get out of it by giving back to you the read in terms of totally awesome content! One thing I have struggled to do is set aside time to actually sit down with my laptop and document content. What I am going to be doing from now on is using that seriously cool little tool on my phone that’s allows speech to convert into text. Although I have found that it either doesn’t entirely pick up my words or I in general cannot form coherent sentences!
The Website Bit
TheTravelWOD is going to be a documentary of my journey around the world and my transition into Crossfit/Obstacle Course racing. I see this website being able to grow into a pretty cool little brand over time that developing a community of totally kickass travellers and fitness junkies a like. I want you guys and girls as the readers to gain both entertainment and hopefully some kind of educational value from my writings.
The Travel Bit
This part is fairly simple to define. It is going to be my stories and my tips/tricks that I learn going from place to place. These will range from a 24 hour guide in a location like our 24 hour experience in Pokhara too my Top 10 Things to do in Alice Springs.
To put things in a simple format, this will be me documenting all the cool things I experience on my way around the world.
The WOD Bit
For those that know me from my pre-global exploration days I was heavily into my bodybuilding and compete in men’s physique competitions. The next natural transition was to go into classic bodybuilding and that is where my coach and I were taking things. But me being me thought it would be a good idea to put this on the back burner for a little while and go out with my backpack and explorer hat and acquire some cool stories from travelling the world.
Naturally as time goes by beliefs and goals change. My focus now to become more athletic and have variety within my training. Strength will always be the focus but adding in both aerobic and high intense cardio will not hurt. I guess what I am trying to say is that I am making the transition from bodybuilding into that dreaded word no bodybuilder dares to speak……Crossfit. Yup! There we have it. My training has transitioned from bodybuilding into Crossfit which will help me develop the fitness required to complete varying obstacle course competitions.
Quite simply this will be the documentary of my journey into the world and Crossfit and Obstacle Course racing.
This is where things can get a little tricky without a little bit of discipline and forward planning. Both Travelling and Fitness Training and very specific areas that do require a lot of dedicated time too. Fitness Training will also require specific equipment which will not always be able to be found whilst on the road. I mean when you are climbing a mountain in the middle of China I do not think that you will be finding an Anytime Fitness anywhere near.
The way in which you’ve got to marry these two areas of interest up is by getting into the gym wherever you can. If you can’t get yourself into a gym or it is out of budget then you can focus on other forms of training such as bodyweight training, sprints, running, skipping etc. I can guarantee that if you are a complete meat head that doing a bodyweight circuit will cripple you.
So that’s the easy bit out of the way. Onto the execution phase of this wild whirlwind of a documentary!
